Chennai Super Kings’ return to the Indian Premier League after two years of suspension has caused a wave of happiness among fans as well as players. From fans to players to team’s managing staff, all are celebrating its comeback.

Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin said on the return of CSK, “I think the two-year hiatus for CSK probably increases its value much like what it did for Manchester United when the air crash happened. I don’t know if it’s in the same league but surely people in Chennai and fans across the world are waiting for CSK to return. I hope it turns out to be a good comeback.”

The 30-year-old cricketer has been facing a lot of rage upon this statement on social media for comparing  Chennai Super Kings’ return with the Manchester United air tragedy.

Manchester United had lost eight players and three staff members in a plane crash on 6th February 1958. 21 people who survived included 9 players from the team, Sir Bobby Charlton and manager Matt Busby.

People on social media were not too kind on Ashwin over this. Later he had to clarify his statement in a series of tweets saying that he only meant that CSK’s comeback will see fans turn up in numbers and claimed that he was misquoted in the interview.
