The Asia Cup 2023 has finally decided where it will be held.
Asia Cup was going to be played in Pakistan, but it ran into various issues.
The BCCI objected to playing the tournament in Pakistan.
Because of the issue raised by BCCI, several problems came up.
The Pakistan Cricket Board stated that they would cut off their name from the tournament if they didn’t get the rights to host it.
In between there was discussion going on to conduct the tournament in a neutral venue that was UAE.
The Pakistan board still raised an issue with that and came up with the solution of adopting a hybrid model.
The final decision was to be taken during the IPL final that was being played at Ahmedabad.
Tournament
This year the tournament will be played in the ODI format as the World Cup is also going to happen this year.
The tournament takes place every two years in which mainly the Asian teams take part.
Sri Lanka beat Pakistan and became the winner for the last time in the Asia Cup.
Last year’s Cup was played in Twenty format and this year it will be in one-day format.
New Team
The new team Nepal will be featured for the first time in the Asia Cup.
They performed well and got their chance as they qualified for the cup.
The Nepal team beat the UAE team to qualify for the first time in the tournament.
In January 2023, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the structure and pathway.
They also confirmed the dates for the Asia Cup to be played.
Groups
Nepal is placed in the same group as India and Pakistan.
Before the World Cup, we will get to see one of the biggest clashes between India and Pakistan.
The second group consists of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
Asia Cup
After all the fights and disputes, the Asia Cup is finally going to be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The tournament will follow a hybrid model, as it will start on August 31st and likely end on September 17th, 2023.
Najam Sethi, Chair of the PCB Management Committee, thanks the Asian Cricket Council for accepting his hybrid model for the ACC Asia Cup 2023, which is now scheduled from 31 August to 17 September.
