Sri Lanka played the fifth and last ODI against Australia at the R.Premadasa Stadium.

SL was already ahead by 3-1 in the five-match series and has won the series, whereas Australia will be looking to end the series with a win.

First Innings

SL won the toss and elected to bat first. The batters were looking in great form and in a mindset to win the last match of the series, while the bowlers of Australia were all prepared to break their hopes. They started well and took the first wicket in the third over itself and the second one in the fifth over.

The bowlers of Australia broke the batting line-up of Sri Lanka badly as they were taking frequent wickets and not letting any of their batsmen settle down.

While everyone else was losing their wicket at a low score, Chamika Karunaratne was the only man who stood against the bowling of Aus. He played great cricketing shots and made sure that he didn’t lose his wicket. And he completed his half-century. The fours and sixes from his bat came as a relief to the Sri Lankan side. His knock-off of 75 runs added valuable runs to the total of SL.

Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, and Matthew Kuhnemann took two wickets each where as Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green each took one wicket, keeping the total to a minimum of 160 runs.

Second Innings

The second innings started with some good shots, but soon Aaron Finch lost his wicket and wasn’t late enough when David Warner gave an easy catch to Danushka Gunathilaka while trying to clear the ball for the boundary.

Australia lost three of their main batsman during the powerplay. Bowlers weren’t going to let them chase down the runs so easily.
The bowlers, Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana took three and two wickets each as they were making it difficult for the batsman of Australia to score runs.

Whereas short knocks from Marnus Labuschahne, Alex Carey, and Mitchell Marsh enabled Australia to score the runs scored by the opponents and win the match.

At last, Charith Asalanka was elected as the Man of the Match. SL won the series by 3-2.
