Australia Tops the WTC Rankings After Dominating Win Over India.

India is touring Australia for a five-match Test series. After a commanding victory in the first Test, India entered the second Test, a day-night match played with the pink ball, aiming to extend their lead. However, Australia turned the tables with a dominant performance.

Match Details

The second Test was played from December 6th to 8th. India won the toss and chose to bat first.

India First Innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the innings for India, but the start was disastrous as Mitchell Starc dismissed Yashasvi on the first ball.

Shubman Gill came in next and built a brief partnership with KL Rahul, but neither could convert their starts into significant scores. With wickets falling at regular intervals, India struggled to build momentum.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fighting knock of 42 runs provided some resistance, but the team was eventually bowled out for 180 runs. Mitchell Starc was the standout bowler, taking six wickets, including a five-wicket haul. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland supported him with two wickets each.

Australia First Innings

Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney opened the innings for Australia and got off to a solid start. However, the Indian bowlers soon struck, dismissing both openers.

Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head then steadied the innings with an excellent partnership. Both batters completed their half-centuries, but Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Labuschagne before he could build further.

Travis Head continued his dominance at the crease, smashing 140 runs to guide Australia to a strong total of 337 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj bowled impressively, taking four wickets each.

India’s Second Innings

India’s second innings began with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the crease. However, Rahul was dismissed early, and the Indian batting lineup once again faltered against the Australian bowlers.

India managed only 175 runs as Pat Cummins wreaked havoc, claiming a five-wicket haul. Scott Boland contributed with three wickets, while Mitchell Starc added two more to his tally.

Australia Second Innings

Chasing a modest target of 19 runs, Australia’s openers made quick work of the chase, securing a comprehensive 10-wicket victory.

With this dominant win, Australia climbed to the top spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Rankings, while India slipped to third place.
