Parupalli Kashyap

Australian Open Super Series has begun and Indian shuttlers are looking in a good form. India’s Parupalli Kashyap began his journey in the Australian Open SuperSeries with two victories, one over of China’s Zhao Junpeng and  the other over Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai. What is interesting that the time period between the two wins was only two hours.

First match against Zhao Junpeng started at 9 am local time where Kashyap defeated Zhao Junpeng 21-15 21-18 in 34 minutes. He had to return within little two hours for this match against Sakai which started 12.20 pm. The match lasted for 29 minutes with Kashyap winning 21-5 21-6.

Though he was able to register two victories in two hours, he has requested Badminton World Federation (BWF) to change the schedule in further matches and tournaments as it may be difficult for someone to play back to back matches while recovering from an injury.

Kashyap after a shoulder injury in Premier Badminton League (PBL) in January had been out of the game recovering from injury. In an interview to BWF, he said,”I didn’t play almost for a year. The shoulder injury happened during the PBL (Premier Badminton League) final in January. It took three months for it to heal. It’s going to take time. The breaks have been long. I feel I’ve lost my base fitness. I had knee surgery earlier, now it’s the shoulder. To recover fitness you need for work for a long period.”
