In a program organized by the Punjab master athletics association, a 78-year-old athlete Bakshish Singh passed away on the spot due heart attack right after winning the competition. Bakhsh Singh, who hails from Jallowal in Hoshiarpur, won 1500 meter title and secured third position in 800 meter.
Bakshish collapsed right after completing 1500 meter race and was rushed to the civil hospital immediately after which, his death was announced by the doctors.
Bakshi Singh has clinched over 200 medals so far. One of Bakshish’s kin has said that he has always shown keen interested towards sports. Bakshish served in the army and later took up teaching as his profession. He started participating in games since 1982 and played in various states as well. Having achieved over 200 medals in his lifetime, Bakshish have participated in 800 meter, 1500 meter and 5000 meter too.
Bakhshish always used to say that it is better to die in the field while working hard, rather than dying in hospitals by getting injected.
