BCCI Apex Council meeting on IPL 2020

BCCI’s Apex Council met via video conference on Friday evening. The meeting was 4 hours long. It discussed IPL 2020, domestic cricket, venue for the national camps and the Indian cricket team’s international schedule. The biggest takeaway was that the IPL 2020 is to be conducted this year, preferably in the UAE.

BCCI’s Apex Council considered UAE as preferred IPL 2020’s host, in terms of international air connectivity, readymade venues and UAE’s low COVID-19 cases. The meeting concluded that the Board will now approach the Indian Government for the permission to play the 13th edition of IPL.

The Board will take a final decision would be taken once ICC postpones the 2020 T20 World Cup. As per the protocol, it cannot make any official announcements related to the IPL till the ICC World Cup is not called off by ICC.

Jay Shah attended the meeting, and without the protest from anyone present. According to a legal opinion, Jay Shah is eligible to continue. This also means that Sourav Ganguly will continue as the BCCI president after July. The BCCI has taken the view that Shah and Ganguly will continue till the time court decided on the matter.

Ahmedabad seems to be the place where training can take place if BCCI conducts a training camp for the players. The Board said that they cannot train at the National Cricket Academy because of the large number of COVID-19 cases.

The Board concluded that domestic cricket is not likely to take place till December. The Apex Council has decided to advertise for the post of new CEO of the board.
