It has been reported that there are changes being made in the system of annual contracts given to the players as per the BCCI norms and new changes. So now they are expected to remunerate the T20 players so as a result any player who has played 10 T20 International matches will be given an annual contract by the BCCI.
The BCCI had refused to give any weightage to those who played only a few T20 matches during the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA)’s tenure. They look to hand over contracts to the players who have played at least 3 tests or 7 ODI’s.
A specialist T20 player will not be denied of a central contract after he plays 10 matches in a year as this was made clear by the BCCI.
“THE BOARD HAS DECIDED TO CHANGE THE OLD CLAUSE AND ADD A NEW ONE WHERE A PLAYER WHO’S PLAYED A MINIMUM TEN T20 GAMES IN A YEAR CAN BE GIVEN A CENTRAL CONTRACT. IN THE NEW CONTRACT SIGNED BY PLAYERS, THIS CLAUSE WAS INCLUDED. IF THERE’S ANY SPECIALIST T20 PLAYER, HE SHOULD NOT BE DEPRIVED OF A CENTRAL CONTRACT BECAUSE HIS SPECIALITY IS THE SHORTEST FORMAT,” A SOURCE TOLD THE INDIAN EXPRESS.
The players are compensated based on their category as the BCCI had divided the annual contract into 4 categories. The players in the A+ category receive 7 crores whereas A gets 5 crores similarly B gets 3 crores and C gets 1 crore.
