In 2013, BCCI imposed a ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and said that it will not revoke it until Lalit Modi is associated with the board by any means. Recently, an election was held for chosing the president of RCA with two major candidates being CP Joshi and Ruchir Modi, who is son of Lalit Modi. However, CP Joshi won the election by 19-14 and was announced as the new President of RCA.
But still, BCCI is not ready to remove the ban as Lalit Modi is still the president of Nagaur District Cricket Association which comes under RCA. According to a BCCI official, “Our notice, which we had sent to RCA in 2013, was clear that Modi can’t hold any position anywhere in the association or any of its districts. He (Modi) is still president of Nagaur. Until he is removed from Nagaur district, BCCI will not lift ban from RCA.”
While Joshi wrote a letter to BCCI saying, “We have written a letter to BCCI seeking direction on how RCA’s ban can be lifted. If his (Modi) case is an issue, we will take this matter to our AGM and then the house will decide over it. Let us get the clarity from the BCCI and we will later decide what needs to be done.”
