Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from ODIs right after England plays against South Africa at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday.

Benjamin Andrew Stokes, also known as Ben Stokes, was born on June 4th, 1991. The 31 years old left-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler announced his retirement. He is also the captain of the England Test cricket team.

Debut

He was born in New Zealand and moved to England when he was a child.

Ben made his first international appearance in an ODI on August 25th, 2011 against Ireland.

In the same year, on September 23, 2011, he played his first ever T-20I.

Later on, on December 5th, 2013, he made his test debut against Australia.

Career Statistics

He has played 83 test matches to date in which he hit 11 centuries and 28 half centuries. His personal best score was 258 and he also took 182 wickets, which included four five-wicket hauls. His best test figures were 6/22.

Stokes has appeared in 101 ODI matches, scoring a total of 2871 runs, which includes three centuries and 21 half centuries, giving 102 as his personal best in ODI and also taking 74 wickets, including a 5-wicket haul. His best ODI figures were 5/61.

World Cup 2019

England lifted their first-ever World Cup.

He played an important role in the victory of ENG in the finals, as because of his 84 not out runs innings, the match was tied and later decided based on boundary count.

Ben was also named Player of the Match in the World Cup Finals.

Achievements

Stokes was the Man of the Match in the World Cup Finals of 2019.

He hit the second fastest test double hundred. as well as the fastest 250 in tests, for which he took just 196 balls.

Ben stands in the second position with the highest number of sixes in test innings at 11.

He and he have the highest test partnership for the sixth wicket. Jonny Bairstow made a partnership of 399 runs against South Africa.

“Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking place of another player who can give Jos (Buttler) and the rest of the team they’re all.”
