Captain Marvel: Shreyas Iyer scripts history, takes Punjab Kings to IPL 2025 finals, and breaks MI’s unbeaten 200+ defense record.

After a long wait of 11 years, Shreyas Iyer takes the Punjab Kings to the finals of the IPL by beating the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier Two.

By this, Shreyas Iyer becomes the only captain to lead three different IPL franchises in other years to the finals.

His journey as a captain started with the Delhi Capitals when he took them to the finals but lost against MI.

Then last year, he took KKR to the finals and made them win their third IPL trophy after a long wait.

And now in this season, he broke the drought of the Punjab Kings and made them reach the finals of the IPL.

They will be facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the finals on 3rd June, and this time IPL is all set to get a new winner, as both teams have never won an IPL title.

Match Details

The second qualifier of the IPL was all set to be played at Ahmedabad.

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first; the match got delayed due to rain.

Mumbai Indians Innings

Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow opened the innings for MI, but soon Rohit lost his wicket.

Tilak Varma came into bat, and with Jonny, he added valuable runs to the total and took the innings forward.

Vijaykumar Vyshak broke their partnership by taking the wicket of Jonny.

Suryakumar, the in-form batsman, came in, and with Tilak on the other side, they both were taking MI towards a good score.

Chahal broke their partnership, and in the next over, Tilak also lost his wicket to Jamieson.

Hardik and Naman from there handled the innings, and the ending knock by Naman took MI to a total of 203 for the loss of six wickets.

Punjab Kings Innings

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings, but soon Trent Boult took the wicket of Prabhsimran.

Josh Inglis came in to bat and started to smash the ball for boundaries and take the match away from MI.

Hardik stopped him and took his wicket; Shreyas, alongside Nehal, handled the innings from there.

They both were playing great knocks and forming an important partnership.

Ashwani Kumar brought MI back into the game by taking the wicket of Nehal.

Shreyas continued from the other end and also completed his half-century.

He was playing the captain’s knock, and with his innings of 87 runs in just 41 deliveries, PBKS won the match and got to the finals of IPL 2025.
