Cyclone Vardah has caused a lot of destruction in coastal areas of India, however, TNCA (TamilNadu Cricket Association) has assured that the fifth test match between India and England will go on as scheduled. The fifth test is scheduled to start on December 16th.

Kashi Viswanathan, TNCA Secretary stated that the pitch and outfield has not been affected by the Cyclone, he however stated that sightscreens have been badly damaged by vardah and a lot of electrical equipment including floodlight bulbs and ACs have been damaged and need to be fixed before the start of the match. Three blocks of the Chepauk stadium will remain closed as before.

IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla also commented on the same saying the fifth test will go on as scheduled and TNCA is keen on hosting it.

Cyclone Vardah was the strongest cyclone to hit the Chennai coast in last two decades. As it hit the Chennai coast on Monday, it claimed at least 10 lives, causing a lot of destruction to nature and man-made structures.

Chennai test, which starts on Friday, is the last test of the ongoing 5 match series between India and England. India has already won the series and currently lead by 3-0. The last test, is a chance for England team to save some pride and at the same time, India will want to complete a whitewash and end the year on a high.
