Defending champions RCB Women start the Indian Women’s Premier League with a winning performance.
The Women’s Premier League, also known as the WPL, began its third edition on Friday, February 14th.
The first match was set to be played between the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, and Gujarat Giants Women.
Match Details
The first WPL match was played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Gujarat Giants Women
Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt opened the innings for GG-W.
Beth started with good momentum, but Laura wasn’t able to support him from the other end as she lost her wicket to Renuka Singh.
Dayalan Hemalatha came into bat, but she also soon lost her wicket.
Meanwhile, Beth completed her half-century, and Ashleigh Gardner helped her from the other end.
Prema Rawat broke their partnership as she took the wicket of Beth.
Ashleigh soon completed her half-century and was playing a great innings.
No other batsmen supported her much, but the knock of 79 runs by her took the Gujarat Giants Women to a massive total of 201 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Women
The defending champions were all set to chase down the total.
Smriti Mandhana and Danni Eyatt-Hodge opened the innings for them.
Smriti smashed two outstanding fours in the first over itself.
Ashleigh Gardner didn’t let the openers settle as she took both of their wickets in the second over.
Ellyse Perry and Raghvi Bist handled the innings as they both formed a good partnership and stabilized the innings.
Ellyse also completed her half-century, going on as both of them lost their wickets.
Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja came in to bat as they both were playing great shots.
Richa soon completed her half-century as they both took RCB-W towards victory.
