Ashwin’s dominance with bat and ball secures an outstanding win for India.

Bangladesh is on tour in India, with the series including two Test matches and three T20I matches.

Match Details

The first Test match was played at Chepauk, Chennai, where Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

India First Innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India.

However, Hasan Mahmud quickly disrupted their plans, taking four wickets regularly. Yashasvi managed to complete his half-century but soon lost his wicket.

India was in trouble, but Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin steadied the ship, forming a crucial partnership. Both players completed their half-centuries, but Jadeja eventually fell to Taskin Ahmed.

Ashwin, however, continued his fine form and completed a century, helping India post a total of 376 runs.

Bangladesh First Innings

Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan opened the innings for Bangladesh, but Jasprit Bumrah struck early, bowling Shadman in the first over.

Akash Deep then bowled Zakir and Mominul Haque in consecutive deliveries, putting Bangladesh on the back foot.

The Indian bowlers continued to dominate, taking wickets at regular intervals. Bangladesh was bowled out for 149 runs, with Bumrah taking four wickets. Siraj, Akash, and Jadeja each claimed two wickets.

With the four wickets, Bumrah also completed the milestone of 400 international wickets.

India Second Innings

In their second inning, Yashasvi and Rohit opened once again but were quickly dismissed. Shubman Gill took charge from one end, while Rishabh Pant supported him from the other.

Together, they formed an outstanding partnership, with both completing their half-centuries and then converting them into centuries.

India declared their innings at 287/4, setting a mammoth target for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh second innings

Chasing 515 runs to win, Bangladesh’s openers Zakir and Shadman started well but soon lost their wickets.

Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to anchor the innings, scoring a half-century, but the wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

Despite Shanto’s efforts, Bangladesh was bowled out for 234 runs, handing India a convincing victory by 280 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the standout performer, taking six wickets in total, including a five-wicket haul, and scoring a century. He was named the Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance.

India now leads the series 1-0 with one Test remaining.
