New Zealand faced England at Leeds stadium for their third test match against them from June 23-27, 2022.

Day 1

NZ won the toss and elected to bat first. Now it was time for the batsman of NZ to set up a good total. As the openers came out to bat, they lost their first wicket in the first over itself.

The batsmen of NZ were seen in trouble as they weren’t able to stand for long in front of the ENG bowlers. They lost five of their main batters for a score of 123 runs.

Then Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell handled the innings with ease, as they both made a partnership of 102 runs by the day’s end. Therefore, at the end of the day, the NZ score was 225/5.

Day 2

The next day, Mitchell completed his century, whereas Tom achieved a half-century.

Jack Leach took five wickets and limited the New Zealand batters to a score of 329 runs.

It was time for the English batsman to chase the runs and take the lead in the match. The start wasn’t good for the ENG batsman as they lost six of their wickets for just a score of 55 runs.

However, Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton handled the innings as Jonny completed his century and Jamie his half-century. By the end of the second day, they both took the total to 264/6.

Day 3

On day three, the partnership of 241 runs by both the batsmen, especially the 162-run knock by Bairstow, led the total of ENG to 360 runs and took a lead of 31 runs.

The Second Innings of NZ started. Tom Latham’s knock of 76 runs gave them a stable start despite the fall of wickets. On the other hand, Tom Latham’s knock and Kane Williamson’s knock kept them alive in the match.

By the end of the day, three NZ were at a score of 168/5.

Day 4

Day four started in favor of New Zealand as Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell started well as they both achieved their half-centuries and, with their partnership of 113 runs, NZ made a total of 326 runs.

ENG needed 296 runs to win the match. Despite losing their first two wickets at a low score, the further partnerships took away the game from New Zealand.

Ollie Pope and Joe Root, completing their half-centuries and forming a partnership of 134 runs, almost took away the game from the Black Caps.

As the day ended, ENG was at a score of 183/2, which made them stronger.

Day 5

The next day, the wicket of Pope came as a relief, but the smashing knock by Jonny at the end of 71 runs in just 44 balls made ENG clean sweep black caps.

Jack Leach was the Man of the Match for taking five wickets in both the innings.
