FIFA bans the Indian football team.

It is the international governing body of association football.

“FIFA” stands for International Federation of Association Football.

It was founded on May 21st, 1904 in Paris, France.

The 118-year-old Federation is divided into six regional confederations, namely Asia, Africa, Europe, North and Central America, the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America.

FIFA Lifts the Ban on India

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 was scheduled in India in October.

All India Football Federation (the body that governs football in India) was banned by the FIFA on August 15th, causing serious problems for Indian football.

The cause of the ban was stated as a third-party influence.

This ban happened when the former president of Indian Football, Praful Patel, who was also a council member of FIFA, refused to part with his post as the head of football in the country.

Due to his statement of not continuing in his line, the Supreme Court removed him from his post, and a Committee of Administration was appointed to run the AIFF.

The making of the COA is where the difference started to come up with FIFA and eventually led to the ban.

How does the ban work?

Due to third-party interference, the AIFF has been suspended from FIFA.

The suspension means, for the time being, no international matches can be played by the Indian team.

This applies to both the men’s as well as the women’s team football and all the club teams in India.

The suspension will also apply to Indian players who are playing for clubs outside of India, as they will be unable to participate until the ban is lifted.

When and how can this suspension be lifted?

FIFA is clear enough about what AIFF needs to do to lift the suspension.

“The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administration to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,” FIFA pointed out.
