Bangladesh breaks the losing streak against New Zealand, as for the first time they won a test match at home against them.

The Kiwis have always defeated Bangladesh at home until now.

They broke their losing streak and won the first test out of a two-match series.

The ICC World Test Championship 2023–2025 started with the Ashes series.

Bangladesh and New Zealand started the campaign for the Test Maze as New Zealand toured Bangladesh.

Match Details

The first test match was played in Sylhet from November 28th to December 2nd.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first.

Bangladesh First Innings

Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan opened the innings for them.

They both tried to give a stable start to their team as Ajaz Patel bowled Zakir.

Mahmudul kept on going from one end, while short knocks kept on coming from the other end.

He soon completed his half-century and kept adding runs.

His knock of 86 runs and the short knocks by others helped their team reach a total of 310.

New Zealand First Innings

Tom Latham and Devon Conway opened the innings for them.

They couldn’t give their team a good start as they lost their wickets.

Kane Williamson stood strong in the middle as he completed his half-century.

With his marvelous knock of 104 and 41 runs by Daryl and 42 by Glenn, New Zealand reached a total of 317.

They had a lead of seven runs by the end of the first inning.

Bangladesh Second Innings

Mahmudul and Zakir failed to give a great start, losing their wickets soon.

Najmul Hossain Shanto played an amazing captain knock as he completed his century.

His knock of 105 runs was followed by some good knocks by Mominul of 40 runs, Mushfiqur of 67 runs, and Mehidy of 50 runs.

It took them to 338 runs, as New Zealand needed 332 runs to win the match.

New Zealand Second Innings

The Bangladesh bowlers didn’t let it settle, as they started to take wickets from the start.

Taijul Islam played an important role in the wicket-taking, as he took a haul of five wickets and, in total, six wickets.

With his outstanding bowling performance, they took all the wickets of the Kiwis by just 181 runs.

Bangladesh won the match by 150 runs, as Taijul got the Player of the Match award for taking a ten-wicket haul in the match.
