Abey Kuruvilla who is the former teammate of Ajit Agarkar has joined the race to conquer one of the three vacant spots available in the Indian men’s cricket selection panel. After terms of Sarandeep Singh (North Zone), Devang Gandhi (East) and Jatin Paranjape (West) ended the vacancies were created and let to occupy. On November 13 the former Indian pacer applied for the spot.

Both the pacers have played a lot of cricket together for India and well both of them are from Mumbai. The aim is to occupy the West Zone selector’s position replacing Paranjpe. It is expected that Agarkar’s wealthy International experience might give him an edge over the other applicants.

Kuruvilla has played around 25 ODI’s and 10 Tests and the 53-year-old was also a part of the winning Under 19 world cup team as he was in the junior selection panel from 2008-12. On the other hand, he was also the chief selector of Mumbai in the same year.

Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee which comprises of Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh will be choosing the selectors.

Sunil Joshi (South Zone) and Harvinder Singh (Central Zone) as the members of the five-member panel have been chosen by the committee earlier in March.

Former India left-arm spinner Maninder Singh, and former India pacer Chetan Sharma (North Zone), former India opener Shiv Sundar Das (East Zone) – All of these crickets have also applied for the role.
