Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir has earned a lot of respect as a player and is a well reputed name in the cricketing world. He was a part of the team when it won the 2007 T-20 World Cup as well as the ICC World Cup 2011. Also he is the skipper of  Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and has led this team to two times IPL victory. But now he wants to play a different role in the game.

Gambhir is now thinking to get in touch with TNPL this season and play the role of a mentor. According to an interview given by Gambhir to TOI, he said, “Yes, I am in talks with a few franchises for a mentoring role. This tournament is for up and coming Indian youngsters. It is a platform for the local talent. I don’t want to block a young talent by playing in TNPL.”

So it is clear that Gambhir won’t be playing in the tournament as he feels that the young players deserves this chance. He has also submitted applications to different franchises in the tournament. Also it would be interesting to see Gambhir in such a role as we have only seen him on the ground.

Aa per a source, “Mentoring in TNPL doesn’t mean that he is compromising on his playing career. But it will be a new experience for Gambhir and he is taking it as there are hardly any cricket engagements for him around that time. He will continue to play domestic cricket for Delhi, IPL and hopefully make a comeback into the Indian team.”
