Gautam Gambhir takes over as the new head coach of Team India.
After the ICC T20 World Cup, the head coach of India, Rahul Dravid, retired from the post.
There were many options wide open for the position of head coach.
But Gautam Gambhir was the best of all and the greatest mentor.
Early Life
Gautam was born on October 14th, 1981, in New Delhi.
He was born into a Punjabi Hindu family, and his father manages the texting business.
He started to play cricket at the young age of 10 and received schooling from Modern School, New Delhi.
Gambhir didn’t pursue further studies and focused entirely on the game.
He was coached by Sanjay Bharadwaj at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy in Delhi.
Debut
Gambhir’s first debut in the Indian jersey was against Bangladesh on April 11, 2003.
He played the ODI match against Bangladesh later in the next year.
He debuted in the Test matches on November 3rd, 2004 against Australia.
At that time, T20 cricket wasn’t much in demand.
Later in 2007, he debuted in the T20 format for India against Scotland.
Journey
Since his debut, Gambhir has always been an important part of the Indian team.
He was in the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning India team.
Gambhir was an important part of the World Cup-winning team.
He was also the highest run-getter for India in the tournament.
For his outstanding performance, he was also named in the World T20I XI.
No one can ever forget the 2011 World Cup final.
Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar lost their wickets soon.
Gautam formed an important partnership with Virat Kohli.
His innings of 97 runs on 122 balls kept India in the game.
He first formed a partnership with Virat and then a match-winning partnership with MS Dhoni.
And later, India lifted the World Cup after a long wait.
Retirement
After a great career for the India team for more than a decade.
Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement in October 2018.
He has been awarded several high-ranking awards.
One of them is the Padma Shri award from the Government of India.
It is the fourth-highest civilian award in India.
He has several records on his name as a batsman and is all set to take on new responsibilities.
His tenure as the head coach of Team India starts with the India tour of Sri Lanka.
