Ged Stokes, father of Ben, dies after cancer battle, aged 65

The father of England all-rounder Ben Stokes and the former rugby league player of New Zealand Ged stokes have passed away after fighting an internal battle with brain cancer as he dies at the age of 65.

Workington Town announced this news as Ged stokes used to play rugby for them in the year 1982-83. Lately, he shifted to Cumbria from New Zealand with his family and also became a coach in the year 2003.

His former club paid tribute to him on Twitter and expressed their thoughts and said that he will be missed and his presence will be marked into the rich fabric of town history.

They further sent their thoughts to everyone including the likes of Ben, James and Deb.

During England’s Test tour of South Africa in December 2019, it was the first time that Ged felt ill and was diagnosed with brain cancer and since then Ben has been granted enough leaves to spend time with his family.

After missing the opening campaign of the Rajasthan Royals side he returned to cricket in October and went on to play 3 T20’s against South Africa with the love and blessing of his family.

It has been a really tough time for Ben and his family but each one of them has supported each other. Stokes wrote to the Dailymirror and said that it was tough for him to say goodbye to his family.

In order to get back playing, we made a decision and then I boarded the plane with the love and blessings of my family.

With a three-fingered salute, Stokes always dedicates his milestones to his father. Stokes further added that his dad was too strong on his responsibilities. He made me realize that I also have to offer the role of a husband and father.

I will be focusing back on the game is the final conclusion that was made. – Ben Stokes
