The Last Year Champions Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023.
Gujarat Titans (GT), with their spectacular win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), marked the first position in the table.
With the first position, they qualified themselves for the first qualifier that will be played in Chennai on May 23.
Match Details
The 62nd match of the IPL 2023 was going to be played in
Ahmedabad between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
SRH won the toss and was elected to the field first.
Gujarat Titans (GT) innings
Wriddhiman Shah and Shubman Gill opened the inning for them.
The swing king of India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, took the wicket of Shah in the third delivery for SRH.
Gill and Sai Sudharsan started to form an important partnership to stabilize Shah’s wicket.
Shubman soon completed his half-century, and Sai also came close to completing his fifty.
Marco Jansen then gave the second breakthrough to the GT team as Sai departed for Pavilion after forming a great
partnership of 146 runs with Gill.
After that, wickets kept on falling from one end as Shubman kept on going from the other end.
He proved what he said in the interview after the match against LSG, in which he scored 94 not-out runs.
He said that there are still matches left and he will score a hundred as he did a century.
With his century, GT made a total of 188/9.
In the last over, Bhuvi showcased his class as he took four wickets in a single over and became the second player to take a five-wicket haul in the IPL 2023.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) innings
Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma opened the inning for them.
They weren’t able to give a great start to their team, as Mohammad Shami and Yash Dayal took the wickets of the openers in the first two overs.
Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma bowled outstandingly, as
they both took four wickets each.
Heinrich Klaasen’s 64-run knock tried to bring the match closer but wasn’t able to finish the match.
GT won the match by 34 runs as they secured the first position in the points table and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
