Hardik Pandya’s decision to give Axar Patel the last over helps India win the match.

Sri Lanka has arrived in India for a three-T-20I and three-ODI tour.

The first match was played on January 3, 2023, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The Indian team was sent with many changes as it was also a match with two debutants.

Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar are the debutants.

Match Details

Sri Lanka won and decided to bowl first.

First Innings

Ishan Kishan opened the inning alongside Shubman Gill.

Ishan got the team off to a fast start with some great shots.

On one side, Ishan was hitting great shots, while Shubman lost his wicket.

Suryakumar came out to bat but was caught off guard when he lost his wicket.

The Indian team was in trouble as they were losing wickets.

They were at 94 for the loss of five wickets.

The knocks by Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel at the end saved the match.

Because of their innings, India was able to put up a total of 162/5.

The Sri Lankan innings

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened the innings for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka lost their first wicket soon, while Kusal kept going from the other side.

They were losing wickets on one end but making runs on the other.

The match was going to be difficult because it wasn’t on either side of them.

Shivam Mavi, the debutant, took his maiden international wickets and also kept on giving frequent breakthroughs.

By the end of the 18th over, Sri Lanka had a score of 134, the same as when India was at the end of the 18th over.

The match was neck-to-neck as both teams were fighting hard.

In the 19th over, the Sri Lankan batsmen scored 15 runs, coming close to winning the match.

Hardik’s decision to hand over the final to Axar Patel stunned everyone.

Axar Patel, not letting the hopes of his captain down, managed to save the game.

India won the match by two runs, and Deepak Hooda was chosen as the Player of the Match.
