India clinches historic third ICC Champions Trophy as Rohit Sharma leads India to back-to-back ICC victories.
As India reached the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma became the only captain in the entire history of cricket.
To lead its team in four consecutive finals starting from the World Test Championship, ICC World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, and now the ICC Champions Trophy.
They lifted their second ICC trophy in nine months; first, they won the ICC T20 World Cup, and now India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy.
Match Details
The final match of the ICC Champions Trophy was all set to be played at the Dubai International Stadium.
New Zealand, winning the toss, elected to bat first.
New Zealand Innings
Rachin Ravindra and Will Young opened the innings for the Kiwis.
They both started great and were looking dangerous for the Indian team.
Rohit called Varun Chakravarthy into attack as he broke their partnership and took the wicket of Will.
Soon Kuldeep Yadav also struck by taking the wicket of Rachin and then took the wicket of Kane.
The quick wickets pushed back the Black Caps when Daryl Mitchell started to handle the innings.
He played a slow but important knock of 63 runs, which added important runs to the total.
Going on in the end, Michael Bracewell’s knock of 53 not-out runs took the Kiwis to a total of 251 runs.
Varun and Kuldeep both took two wickets each and helped in stopping the Kiwis from building a big total.
India Innings
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings as the captain was leading from the front.
Rohit was looking unstoppable as he started the innings with a maximum and then kept on charging upon the bowlers.
He soon completed his half-century as Gill was supporting him from the other end.
Santer broke the partnership by taking Gill’s wicket, and in the next over, Virat lost his wicket.
Rohit kept on going his knock of 76 runs, shifted the tension from the other batsmen.
In the end, Shreyas, Axar, and KL Rahul also contributed to the total.
And Ravindra Jadeja played the winning shot by hitting the ball for four runs. India, unbeaten, won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
