The Indian Hockey Team proved to be way better than the arch-rivals, Pakistan defeating them 7-1 in the Hockey World League (HWL) pool game. This is the biggest margin of victory for India against them. With this win, India also confirmed their entry into the quarterfinals. In the previous game also, Pakistan was thrashed by Canada 6-0, and now to lose with a 7-1 margin new low for Pakistan hockey. Besides this defeat being their worst defeat against India, they have also lost 4-7 in the past on two occasions – 2003 Champions Trophy and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Talvinder Singh (21′, 24′) and Akashdeep Singh(47′, 59′) also scored two goals each with Pardeep Mor giving a finishing touch to India’s victory by scoring a goal in the 49th minute. Umar Bhutta scored Pakistan’s only goal, but it was just three minutes before the end of the game.
