Captain Manpreet Singh of the men’s hockey team, along with four other players, has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Sports Authority of India Centre in Bengaluru.

Both men and women teams had reported back for the national camp after a 45-day break on Monday.

Indian Hockey TeamBesides Manpreet, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar and Krishan Bahadur Pathak (goalkeeper) have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

All five of them had travelled together from their hometowns. They are likely to have contracted the virus on the way itself. Manpreet had also celebrated his birthday last month with a few friends and teammates. Varun was also present at the celebration.

All players are in quarantine at the SAI Centre since their arrival as part of the State and SAI protocol.
