Sports Minister Vijay Goel, on Thursday, praised the Indian women’s cricket team for playing magnificently in the ICC Women’s World Cup and also felicitated them for the same. He also said that this will inspire the country’s youth to take up cricket as well as other sports as a career option. Though India lost to England by 9 runs in the final of the tournament at Lord’s, they were welcomed at their home like champions as their performance drove the entire nation to follow and support the Indian women cricketers.

Vijay Goel applauding the girls said, “Our women’s cricket team has done exceedingly well and any form of appreciation will be less for them. Despite ending as runner-ups, I feel that the women’s team has won the finals because they have won the hearts of the entire country.”

He also praised every girl who is involved in sports and said that women leading the international sporting field send a clear message- ‘ Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and now Beti Khilao’. “From Rio Olympics to Paralympics and in games like hockey, wrestling, badminton, and now the splendid performance in the Women’s World Cup, Indian women are leading the way in the international sporting arena. The minister said that the message is clear – Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and now Beti Khilao,” he said.

In his speech, he also highlighted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Vision to involve youth in sports by saying, “Kheloge to Khiloge.”

Along with the players, Goel also felicitated the coaches and support staff for their efforts behind team’s performance. Skipper Mithali Raj also appreciated the performance of each player and thanked Prime Minister and Sports Minister for encouraging them.
