India’s 12-year dominance in the home Test series ended with a series defeat against New Zealand.

The Black Caps are on a tour of India, which includes three Test matches. They had already won the first one and came close to claiming an outstanding victory in the second Test.

Match Details

The second Test match was played in Pune from October 24th to 26th. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first.

New Zealand First Innings

Tom Latham and Devon Conway opened the innings for the Black Caps and started to build a brief partnership. Ravichandran Ashwin broke their stand by dismissing Latham and bringing Will Young to the crease.

Devon completed his half-century before Will lost his wicket to Ashwin. Shortly after, Ashwin struck again, dismissing Devon, and preventing him from converting his fifty into a century.

Rachin Ravindra took charge from one end as Washington Sundar kept taking wickets from the other. Rachin soon completed his half-century but fell to Washington’s bowling. Sundar cleaned up the remaining Black Caps’ wickets, bundling them out for a total of 259 runs.

India First Innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India, but the team quickly started losing wickets.

New Zealand’s bowlers struck regularly, restricting India’s batting line-up to a score of 156 runs.

Mitchell Santner was instrumental, taking seven wickets to dismantle the Indian batting order.

New Zealand Second Innings

Tom Latham and Devon Conway once again opened the innings and got off to a strong start. However, Washington Sundar struck again, breaking their partnership by dismissing Devon.

Tom held the innings together from one end, completing his half-century while wickets fell at the other. Contributions from Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips helped New Zealand reach a total of 255 runs.

India Second Innings

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal began the innings on a positive note, but Rohit soon lost his wicket.

Yashasvi continued his solid form, reaching his half-century, but no other batsman was able to form a meaningful partnership with him.

In the end, India was bowled out for 245 runs, with Mitchell Santner claiming yet another five-wicket haul, ending with six wickets in total.

The Black Caps won the match by 113 runs, ending India’s long-standing record of consecutive home Test series victories.
