Former World no. one India’s archer, Deepika Kumari has topped the qualification round of World Cup Stage II keeping the hopes of a medal still alive. Deepika left the World Cup Stage I after losing in the quarterfinal.

Deepika defeated the top seeded Chinese archer Taipei’s Peng Chia-Mao by displaying an impressive performance of 34 perfect 10s to total 672, five points ahead of Peng Chia- Mao. She will now begin with the last 32. Her team-mates, Monika Saren and Preeti also ranked 31st and 45th respectively making the team rank 5th in the draw of 16.

Dhaniram Basumatary ranked 7th with 667 points and was the highest ranked Indian and Atanu Das finished 13th with 665 points in the men recurve category. Also Indrachand Swami finished 25th making the team rank 3rd in qualification ranking.

Abhishek Verma and Divya Dahal reached the compound mixed pair bronze medal play-off match will have to defeat Italy’s Sergio Pagni and Marcella Tonioli for bronze medal.
