Edu-tech Company Unacademy is eyeing the league’s title sponsorship rights. Unacademy is already one of IPL’s sponsors. It will now submit its bid to replace Vivo this season as the title sponsor.

A BCCI official has confirmed that Unacademy has picked up the bid papers, but he refrained from commenting further.

“I can confirm that Unacademy has shown interest and picked the bid papers. I have heard they will be submitting a bid and are pretty serious. So Patanjali if they bid, will have competition,” the senior official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Vivo annually paid rupees 440 crores as the title sponsor of IPL. The BCCI is now looking at a lesser value between rupees 300 crore to rupees 350 crore. The sponsorship would be for a period of four months and 13 days.

“Yes, Unacademy is already in IPL’s central sponsors’ pool from 2020 to 2023,” the BCCI official said.

An industry insider close to Unacademy’s preparations in filing the bid said that the firm is ready to “take the big plunge”.

CENTRAL SPONSORSHIP AND TITLE SPONSORSHIP

The official explained that the central sponsorship would not have included jersey rights.

“In IPL, jersey logo can only be of title sponsor and apart from that the various team’s sponsors. If they become title sponsors, it will give them rights on various branding properties,” he said.

“The prominent space in the backdrop board in the post presentation area, backdrop in dug out, and boundary rope,” the senior official said when asked about the specifics.
