The 13th edition of IPL has constantly been under a minor downfall this season in terms of its revenue but finally there’s some positive news coming in from several integrated reports that the Ed-tech company Unacademy has officially signed up with BCCI as the new IPL titles sponsor by taking the place of Future Group who has recently made their way to the exit.

The deal falls in the range of 120-130 crores as Unacademy has signed for a period of 3 years as the IPL central sponsors. However the official announcement is yet to be made public by the BCCI.

On the other hand a BCCI official has confirmed in his talks with the InsideSport that the deal is done with Unacademy and they will be making an official announcement soon.

Not to forget that after the Future Group had pulled out and graduation of Dream11 as the title sponsor of the IPL 2020, there were still two slots left for the associate sponsors of the league.

BCCI have completed their first task by filling up slot by shaking hands with Unacademy but there’s still one slot left. Now BCCI is in constant touch with the credit card payment company CRED to fill the second slot.

Analysing several reports conclude that BCCI have made 618 crores from the 2019 IPL Central Sponsorships.

  • VIVO (Title Sponsors) – 440 crores
  • Tata Motors, Dream11, FBB. (Official Partners)- 120 crores
  • PAYTM (Umpire Sponsor)- 28 crores
  • CEAT (Strategic Time-out Partner)- 30 crores

Total revenue of IPL 2019 – 618 crores.

When compared to the current situation of IPL 2020 the central sponsorship values lack by a margin of 40%. On the other hand the official title sponsorship is also down by 50%. The empty slots to fill have become another problem for the BCCI to handle.

  • Dream11 (Title sponsor) – 222 crores
  • Tata Motors and Unacademy (Official Partners) – 80 crores
  • Umpire Partner – 28 crores
  • Strategic Time Out Partner – 30 crores

Total revenue of IPL 2020 – 360 crores (Currently)

There’s still hope that BCCI could find another partner for sponsorship but still the central revenues are set to fall by 40% this year.

The Franchises will also be affected by this as 50% of the total central pool revenues are shared with the IPL franchises.
