Jasprit Bumrah bags the 2024 Sir Garfield Trophy as ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year!!

The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is a cricket trophy that is awarded
annually by the International Cricket Council to the ICC Cricketer of the Year.

It is considered the most prestigious award and was started in the year 2004.

The first-ever award was given to Rahul Dravid of India in 2004.

Since then, it has been ongoing, and the best cricketer of the year has been awarded based on their overall performance.

Several cricketers are nominated every year, and one is chosen as the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

Most Awards

Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Johnson of Australia, and Virat Kohli of India have won the award twice till now.

Ricky Ponting was the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award holder for two consecutive years, 2006 and 2007, and was also named in the Test and ODI team of the year.

Mitchell Johnson got his first award in 2009 and was also named on the test team of the year.

Mitchell got his second award in 2014 and was again named on the test team of the year.

Virat Kohli was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year for two consecutive years, 2017 and 2018, and was also named in the Test and ODI teams of the Year.

Virat has also been named the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade from 2011 to 2020.

Jasprit Bumrah

It was for the first time that Jasprit was nominated for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

Apart from him, Harry Brook and Joe Root from England and Travis Head from Australia were nominated for the award.

Then he was chosen as the ICC Cricketer of the Year and won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award.

With this award, he becomes the fifth Indian player to win the award.

Rahul Dravid was the first one, then Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

India is in second place with five players in total winning six awards.

Australia is in first place with five players winning six awards.
