Indonesian Open and Australian Open title winner, India’s star badminton player Kidambi Srikanth received a warm welcome from the country following his two Superseries win. Appreciating his hard work, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced cash prize of 50 lakhs to the shuttler.

At a program held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on Wednesday, Kidambi along his coach Dronacharya awardee Pullela Gopichand was given a grand welcome by the Chief Minister and other ministers. Both were felicitated by Naidu and given 1000 square ft. yard house site and a group-1 job in the state. Kidambi was presented with a badminton racket by the CM and also announced him a prize of 50 lakhs whereas Gopichand was given 15 lakhs.

CM also tried a hand at the game and later gave stress on the need of producing champions in all kind of sports. He said that badminton is no less than cricket and these awards and felicitations help the players to perform and achieve more in future international events.

Naidu also assured necessary financial support to Srikanth for getting advance training by foreign coaches. He also announced the development of a sports university in Amaravati to encourage young sports players, while regional coaching centres will come up in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.
