Anil Kumble

Finally, India’s head coach, Anil Kumble has earned himself more time until the West Indies tour of India. This is because the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) after discussing for two long hours were still not ready to replace Kumble and asked more time from BCCI.

Thursday night, CAC met BCCI CEO Rahul Johri regarding this issue and came up with permission asking for more time. According to a source “The CAC has bought some time for Kumble and ensured he is not ignominiously removed after India’s run in the Champions Trophy. He will travel with the team to West Indies. It’s a short tour so there shouldn’t be any problems. Kohli is basically being asked to ‘adjust’ for a while more.”

There is no news whether the CAC will take interview of other candidates. Any decision on Kumble will now be taken on 26th June at BCCI’s SGM. CK Khanna who is BCCI’s acting president in a letter about this matter wrote, “How could the coach be replaced in the middle of the Champions Trophy and with the tour to West Indies coming up? Everyone, including IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla, was agreed on the fact that the matter of picking a new coach or giving Kumble an extension must be delayed.”

Team India leaves for West Indies on 20th June after Champions Trophy till 20th July.
