Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the fittest cricketers in the world. He has transformed his body in the last 5 years. So it is obvious that he must be the lead icon of people who want to remain fit. There may be people who follow his daily fitness routine. As a result, he should be conscious of what type of product he is promoting, is it good for health or not, what effects does it have on one’s health.

Such an example is set by the Indian skipper as he is now ending his ties with Pepsi. Many studies have shown that these carbonated soft drinks does not have a good effect on our body and same is the reason why Kohli is now in no mood to be the brand ambassador of this product. This act by Kohli got mixed reviews, some asked why it took so long for him to understand this while some applauded him for this.

Now the question arises – will other sportsmen follow the same path? For now, former Indian badminton player and current India coach Pullela Gopichand is only one who has taken a similar stand against publicizing an unhealthy product two decades ago.

Brand expert, Harish Bijoor expressing his views on Kohli’s decision said, “I think it will influence other athletes. Brand ambassadors in today’s age want to be seen as having a wholesome, boy-next-door kind of imagery. This (move) will of course influence others to stay off brand categories that could become controversial in the future.”

Bijoor further added, “If cola companies lose out on big stars like Kohli for their products, they will reinvent within their own portfolio to have healthier options. If Kohli does not advertise Pepsi cola, it does not mean he will not touch any other product from PepsiCo which is fruit based or energy based. I think this will become a trend.”

Will Indian people follow this decision taken by their fitness idol?
