The Mumbai Indians didn’t have a good start to the season, but they bounced back as always and made their way into the playoffs.
Now the Indian Premier League has four teams that will play in the playoffs.
The teams are Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians.
Currently, the Gujarat Titans are in first place, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians in fourth place.
Match Details
The do-or-die knockout match for the race to the playoffs was all set to be played at Wankhede, the home ground of the Mumbai Indians.
Delhi Capitals were all set to take on MI as Faf du Plessis, the captain of DC, won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Mumbai Indians Innings
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for MI.
They weren’t able to give a great start to the team as Mustafizur took the wicket of Rohit.
Will Jacks came in and, with Ryan, added some quick runs to the total.
Soon they both lost their wickets, and Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma handled the innings from there.
They were both building a strong partnership and adding runs to the total.
Mukesh Kumar broke their partnership by taking Tilak’s wicket, and later Hardik also lost his wicket.
Suryakumar kept on going from one end and completed his half-century, and Naman Dhir showed classic power hitting from the other end and took MI to a respectable score of 180/5.
Delhi Capitals Innings
KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis opened the innings for DC.
The bowling unit of MI started to take wickets from the start.
Deepak Chahar first took the wicket of Faf, and then Boult took the wicket of KL.
From there, the wickets started to fall in quick intervals of time.
And in no time the Mumbai Indians bowlers took all the wickets of DC at a total of 121 runs.
Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each, while every other bowler took one wicket.
