Mithali Raj

At a point where the whole country is praising and supporting the Indian women’s cricket team, the team’s skipper, Mithali Raj still awaits for the land that was promised to her in 2005. Mithali has been playing for India since she was 16 and has regularly performed well for the team.

However, the state government didn’t seem to acknowledge her contribution to Indian women cricket. According to a recent report published in TOI, the erstwhile government of YS Rajasekhara Reddy had promised her a land of 500 yards in 2005 but she had still not received it. Also, her family including her parents Dorai Raj and Leela Raj have been knocking the doors of government office only to realise that the promise is fake.

According to a source close to Mithali, “A player cannot be running around to get what was promised to her. Isn’t it the responsibility of the government to recognise the achievements of its players and honour them?”

Indian women’s cricket team captain has scored 400 runs in the tournament and led the team to the finals. Her performance in ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 won billions of hearts.
