Sai Praneeth

Local boy Sai Praneeth finally arrived India, Hyderabad late night on Monday after winning at the Thailand Grand Prix Gold tournament. Everyone is impressed with brilliant performance of this young boy. He shared what it took to take his game at that level.

He said that he is concentrating more on his fitness than his game, “For a long time I have been lacking fitness. For a long time I have been working on it rather than on my strokes. I already have a lot of strokes and I can play my game. But if I am not fit enough, I cannot last for a long time.”

Also, new coach had his different ways so Sai Praneeth had to adjust a little bit. Talking about the Indonesian coach, he said, “The Indonesian coach has taken care of me. I think the concept of running is the same, but Mulyo has his own thinking of badminton training. His training is more specific towards badminton. He would make us do long drills of three to four hours instead of multiple short sessions of one and one-and-a-half hours I would do in the past.”

“Now I am more motivated because I can see the difference very clearly in what I am doing,” he said.

According to him, he has to utilise his time very carefully as he gets very little time between tournaments.

“If you see before the competition phase where I participated in India (Open Super Series), Malaysia Super Series and Singapore Super Series, I trained for six to seven weeks. Before the Thailand Open, I’ve had a month to train. This time is like building a bank for my endurance. I will withdraw my stamina from it when I play.”

He had also made his plans for fitness according to his schedule and is now even more confident regarding his game.

“For the first time, I know what I need to do for my fitness. After the Indonesia and Australia Superseries, I will have another seven or eight weeks to train before the World Championships. I will only get stronger.”
