MS Dhoni

Let’s remember the final of the tri-series nation 2013, India needed 15 runs from the last over. MS Dhoni was on strike with the last wicket in hand, still, he managed to win the match with two balls remaining. In India’s fourth ODI against West Indies, the situation was somewhat similar, India needed 16 runs from the last over but Dhoni failed as a finisher.

Dhoni, whose job in the last few years has become to finish the match and has gained the title of the best finisher was not able to finish this match in style. And not only to blame Dhoni, India’s batting line-up displayed a poor performance in the match. Nothing went right for the Indian side as far as batting was concerned except Rahane’s and Dhoni’s half-century. Both tried hard to lead India to victory but failed.

Dhoni’s batting saw a downfall as he was not able to play the spinners. His strike rate went below 50. It is not about the slow innings, he was also not able to rotate the strike. It is a reason to worry as Dhoni holds the position of a finisher in the Indian team. And the one to replace him as a finisher can be Hardik Pandya.

He was seen giving lessons to Hardik Pandya in the match and perhaps he has realised that he needs to brush up his successor as he may not be able to play as a finisher for long.
