Alexandre Guimaraes

In Indian Super League (ISL) 2016, struggling Mumbai City FC, co-owned by Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor got the support of Alexandre Guimaraes. He led the team to the top of the league rankings in ISL 2016 until semi-finals, where they lost to Atletico de Kolkata and were eliminated from the tournament.

Seeing this rise in the performance of the team, the team owners have decided to retain the services of manager Alexandre Guimaraes. He will look to lead Mumbai City FC to their first Indian Super League title. Team’s co-owner, Ranbir Kapoor in a media release said, “Getting the coach to come back for the upcoming season was a no-brainer. We were very happy with the team’s performances last season and the way he led the team on the field like a general and off the field like a father-figure, was commendable.”

Guimaraes also expressed his happiness to be a part of the team again saying, “I’m very happy to continue as the coach of Mumbai City FC. The support of the owners and management has been fabulous and the reception and love the players and my staff got from the supporters club was tremendous. We achieved some of the objectives last year by finishing top of the table and reaching the semi-finals but I’d like to continue this project and finish the job I came for.”
