The vice-captain of India in the white-ball cricket KL Rahul clears that his role and the position of his batting will completely depend on the format. This statement was given by the skipper of Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday ahead of the ODI series against the mighty Aussies.

Sydney Cricket Ground will witness the opening match between India and Australia as both the teams will lock horns on 27th of September. They will play a total of 4 Tests, 3 ODI’s and 3 T20’s.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma who is out due to certain hamstring injuries and fitness issues, it will be essential for Rahul to take charge as Rohit has been a great batsman for India in all the three formats and therefore they will miss the likes of the hitman.

On Thursday during a virtual press conference, Rahul explained that his batting position will completely depend on the format and the team requirement. It is important to understand what the team needs from him. He had batted at the number 5 position in the last series as they needed to keep wickets. KL Rahul looks forward to playing at any position that the team puts him in.

He further added that he has not been involved in 50 over cricket for a period of time but will look forward to contributing to the team as he got the chance now.

Not to forget the unbelievable form KL Rahul is in as he scored 670 runs in just 14 matches for the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 2020. With this, he won the orange cap.

The 28-year-old further added that it was challenging in the IPL but he understood his role well and now also he looks to do something similar in Australia.

With the leadership aspects if Virat Kohli the job of KL Rahul will be much easier due to his presence.

After the ODI’s, India will play Australia in the longer format of the game in a Day-Night Test match which will be played in Adelaide on 17th of December.

The 4 match test series is quite important as it is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) where the Aussies are on top of the table and India stand on the number 2nd position after the new standing released by the ICC due to the pandemic.
