Match Details: Third T20I

The third and final match of the series took place on January 2 at the Nelson Ground. Having already secured the series, New Zealand looked to make it a clean sweep, while Sri Lanka aimed for a consolation win.

Sri Lanka Innings

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened for Sri Lanka but failed to build a strong foundation, both departing early. Kusal Perera, however, anchored the innings with a brilliant display, supported by Charith Asalanka. Perera’s knock grew in intensity as he reached a well-deserved half-century and eventually converted it into a stunning century. His powerful innings, combined with short but impactful contributions from the middle order, helped Sri Lanka post a formidable 218/5.

New Zealand Innings

Chasing 219, Tim Robinson and Rachin Ravindra opened for New Zealand. Although Ravindra played an admirable innings and notched up a half-century, the rest of the batting lineup faltered under pressure. While Ravindra fought valiantly, he found little support from the other end, and New Zealand fell short, managing 211/7 in their 20 overs.

Sri Lanka secured a thrilling 7-run victory in the final game, salvaging some pride. However, New Zealand’s consistent performances in the first two matches ensured they took the series 2-1.
