A view of the IPL Trophy

After the UAE and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has offered to host the IPL in case the league can’t be held in India. Speculations of the IPL being cancelled due to the rising number of coronavirus cases have come up.

The BCCI has cancelled out the possibility of an end-September-early-November window for the IPL. Its first choice is staging the tournament at home. However, the possibility seems highly unlikely given the increasing number of coronavirus cases in India.

The BCCI has also stated that it would be its last resort to have the IPL staged abroad.

“Staging the event in India has to be the first choice but in case it is not safe to have it, then we will look at the overseas options. After UAE and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has also offered to host the IPL,” said a senior BCCI official.
