The Black Caps had already claimed victory in the T20I series by 2-1 and carried their momentum into the ODI series with a dominant performance.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first in the opening ODI. Their bowlers delivered an exceptional performance, consistently taking wickets and restricting the Sri Lankan batting lineup to a total of 178 runs. In response, the Black Caps’ opening batsmen comfortably chased down the target, securing a solid victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
In the second ODI, Sri Lanka won the toss and fielded first. The match was reduced to 37 overs due to weather conditions. Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman played outstanding knocks, propelling New Zealand to a competitive total of 255 runs. Sri Lanka’s chase faltered as their batsmen struggled against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack. Kamindu Mendis was the only notable contributor for Sri Lanka, scoring 64 runs. The visitors were bowled out for 142 runs, handing New Zealand a convincing victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando opened the innings for Sri Lanka. Pathum showcased excellent form, completing his half-century before retiring hurt. Avishka’s dismissal brought Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis to the crease. The duo stabilized the innings and guided Sri Lanka towards a competitive total. In the final overs, Janith Liyanage’s quickfire 53 runs ensured Sri Lanka reached an impressive total of 290 runs.
New Zealand Innings
Will Young and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings for New Zealand but were dismissed early. Mark Chapman stood out as the lone warrior with a valiant knock of 81 runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup faltered against Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. Asitha Fernando, Mahesh Theekshana, and Eshan Bandara each claimed three wickets, bundling New Zealand out for 150 runs.
Sri Lanka’s comprehensive victory in the final ODI ensured the series ended 2-1 in favor of New Zealand.
