“Oh Captain, My Captain”—Rohit Sharma brings curtains down on his test journey.
Rohit Sharma, also known as the Hitman, called off his Test career through his Instagram story yesterday and mentioned that he will continue playing the ODI format.
He was one of the most loved and favorite cricketers across the world, and now he puts down his white jersey to rest.
Debut
First time the nation witnessed him was in the year 2013, during the farewell series of the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar.
He made his debut in that series against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, and in his debut match, he became one of the rare batsmen to score a century in their debut match.
Rohit smashed an outstanding 177 runs against Kolkata, and in the second match, again knocked a beautiful century, playing an innings of 111 not out.
Happy retirement Rohit Bhaiya from test cricket, we’ll miss you in red ball cricket, best of luck for ODIs. I wish we won 2027 ODI WC in your leadership and you finish on high note.
Lots of love for you Bhaiya @ImRo45 ❤️ pic.twitter.com/NDannITeS1— Akash Madhwal (@Akash_Madhwal45) May 7, 2025
Later Life
He was later ruled out of the team and then, in the year 2018-19, got called again for the tour of Australia.
The knocks by him there helped India to win the series, and from then on he continued to play test cricket.
In February 2022, he was appointed as the captain of the India test team, succeeding Virat Kohli.
Records
Rohit Sharma has the record of hitting the most sixes in a single test match, which is 13 sixes, which still stands and has not been broken by anyone.
In 2019, he also scored his maiden Test double century against South Africa.
And in the year cycle of 2021-2023, India was led to the finals of the World Test Championship under his captaincy.
Now, as he retired from Test cricket, India seeks their new captain to lead the team against the upcoming tour of England.
Rohit will still be the captain of the ODI India team and has retired from T20I and test cricket formats.
Hitman will be missed in India whites 🇮🇳💙
