Shikhar Dhawan

After playing a spectacular inning of 190 runs in just 168 balls on day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan revealed how his plans changed when he was called up for the Test match. Dhawan while addressing the reporters at the post-day press conference said that he was holidaying in Hong Kong with family and was planning to go to Melbourne but he had to cancel all his plans to join the team for the Test series.

“My plans were to go to Melbourne and spend time with my family and get fit for the one-day series. I was in Hong Kong on a holiday and from there I flew to India and joined the team. Destiny had a different plan. I was happy, of course, to make a comeback to the Test side. Unfortunately, (Murli) Vijay wasn’t fit. I had a good run before this Test series and I just came with the same confidence,” he said.

Dhawan was not included in the initial 15-member squad for the Test series until Murli Vijay was not able to recover from the injury, giving Dhawan a place in the team. Shikhar Dhawan took advantage of the opportunity smashing 190 runs and putting the team in a strong position.
