Along with Ravi Shastri, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman announced Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as the bowling coach and as a batting consultant respectively. However, Shastri had his own choices and later on went to recommend the name of Bharat Arun over Zaheer Khan as the bowling coach of the team. So Zaheer Khan was then appointed as the bowling consultant of the team.
Lately, Shastri has claimed that he has no problem working with Rahul Dravid. He said that Dravid’s experience will prove vital for the Indian cricket team and hence if he joins the team as a consultant the results will be positive. “I’m very clear about that. Rahul can bring great advantages and we all know that. If he can decide on how he can divide his time and let the BCCI know when he can be available, I am all for it,” Shastri said.
Bharat Arun was appointed after Ravi Shastri’s meeting with the management and he has assured that he is fine for the job. He said, “I have myself given this a serious thought. It’s a long way forward – two years – and there’s going to be a lot of planning required in terms of inviting consultants from time to time.”
