Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) breaks down the curse at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with a commanding victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR).
RCB has been performing brilliantly this year, breaking many barriers and winning matches in the hometowns of other teams—venues where they hadn’t won in years. But ironically, the curse returned to their home ground. They won all their away matches but lost the three games they played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Finally, they overcame that curse and won a thrilling match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, jumping back to third position in the points table.
Match Details
The 42nd match of the IPL was played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Innings
Phil Salt and Virat Kohli started great, finding gaps and hitting boundaries from the start. They both looked in good touch and formed a solid opening partnership.
Wanindu Hasaranga broke the stand by dismissing Phil and bringing Devdutt Padikkal to the crease. He and Virat carried the innings forward from there.
Virat soon completed his half-century and kept adding runs. Jofra Archer provided the breakthrough by taking Virat’s big wicket, and shortly after, Devdutt also reached his half-century but lost his wicket.
In the end, RCB batters scored 205 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Rajasthan Royals Innings
Yashasvi Jaiswal and the young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi opened the innings for RR. They started well, but soon Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled out Vaibhav, and in the very next over, Josh Hazlewood dismissed Jaiswal.
The middle-order batsmen came in and began scoring quick runs, threatening to take the match away from RCB.
Josh Hazlewood turned the tide in the 19th over, taking two crucial wickets while conceding only one run.
In the end, RCB won the match by eleven runs, and Rajasthan Royals are now almost out of the race for the playoffs.
