After winning gold at the Singapore Open, Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth lifted his maiden Grand Prix title by defeating Indonesian Jonatan Christie in the final of the Thailand Open Grand Prix 2017.

The match lasted for 1 hour and 11 minutes in which there were a lot of twists. But in the end, the third seeded Sai Praneeth prevailed 17-21 21-18 21-19 over the fourth seeded Jonatan Christie.

This is second consecutive title win for the 24 year old Indian. However, in the first round, he did not have a good start. After the match, he said “I was just focusing on the rallies. It was a difficult match. The rallies were going too long. But I tried to slowly and slowly to build up and I am happy I could win. I thank everyone who supported me.”

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Sai Praneeth for winning the title and USD 1,20,000.
