Serena Williams is planning to return to competition at a new hard-court tournament in Kentucky next month. Williams is the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion.

It is her first action since plating for the US in Fed Cup in February before the lockdown. All sanctioned tennis was shut down from March because of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the women’s and men’s professional tennis tours are scheduled to resume in August.

The Kentucky event that is called the Top Seed Open made an announcement on Thursday. It stated that Williams and Sloane Stephens will be in the field when plays begin on August 10. Stephens is the 2017 US Open champion.

Williams had already stated that she will enter the next scheduled Grand Slam tournament, the US Open. The tournament is likely to begin in New York on August 31.
